Meditation - one of the few PROVEN ways to protect and even repair & lengthen your telomeres (those caps on the end of your chromosomes that stop them 'unraveling').
Longer telomeres are associated with being younger - biologically.
There are many different types of meditation - and I do a mixture of these depending upon my mood - and what I feel I need on any given day.
I tend to gravitate towards Loving Kindness (Metta) Meditations most of all, although Yoga Nidra is excellent - especially of I'm having trouble falling asleep.
I also love to practice the Relaxation Response - created by the Grand-Daddy of Mind/Body Medicine, Dr Herbert Benson. I had the huge privilege of training under him at Harvard Medical School's Benson Henry Institute for Mind/Body Medicine.

How do you meditate? I'd love to hear what works for you.
10 Minutes Well Spent . . .
Black gooseberry fool - vegan, gluten free, healthy and delicious! Directions: I used exotic black gooseberries (!), but you could use any kind. Simmer these down in a tiny amount of water - I added just a little granulated coconut nectar to sweeten.
Then layer with thick Greek style coconut yoghurt. (I used Cocoyo as it is intensely thick and creamy and not sour like some yoghurts - the gooseberries are sour-ish - so you need to balance the flavours).
I had some leftover ground walnut/date cheesecake base, so I popped some of this in the bottom of the glass to add a bit of extra texture and sprinkled a little on top but this is not mandatory 😉
Layer, decorate and eat!
Please feel free to share and give my website details please 😊
Happiness takes practice - it doesn't just happen - as if by magic. Practice gratitude, be mindful, even do my 'fake it 'til you make it' trick (where you put a pencil horizontally between your teeth - which engages the smile muscles and tricks your neural pathways into thinking you are happy - and then you feel happy!) All of these are proven to work happiness growth strategies. How do you grow your happiness levels?
Choosing to be happy - or even joyful - is vitally important to your health.
Here's why . . . Our brains rewire themselves constantly to reflect our most frequent thoughts and emotions - it makes it easier and quicker for us to access those states in future. So, if, for example, you dwell on sad, dark and depressing thoughts, your brain will wire itself to be better at accessing those thoughts faster and more easily - obviously, we don't want this! It is also true that if you associate with depressed or negative-thinking people, your brain will 'mirror' these states - again, allowing you to be able to access these down states more easily. Allowed to continue, this becomes your default brain state.
So, it is extremely important to take responsibility for accessing positive brain states, such as happiness and joy - and the more you practice these states, this will become your default - so that you just become naturally happier overall - more easily and more sustainably.
Jayney's top happiness tip: I use Metta Meditation for example to help me in my happiness practice. It is a form of meditation in which you send loving kindness to yourself, others and to our beautiful planet. There are many free to access Metta Meditations all over the internet and please check back as I will be posting a Metta download here later for you. With love and happiness! Jayney xx

Jayney's Delicious Anti-Ageing Smoothie of the Day
My Super Anti-ageing Smoothie recipe of the day to rewind your body-clock.
Let's lengthen those telomeres!
Fresh or frozen berries - your choice . . I just found red gooseberries in the farmers market and they are so sweet and delicious (maybe too exotic for a smoothie - we shall see). Berries should be organic as they tend to be highly contaminated with pesticides etc. See my article on "The Clean Fifteen and the Dirty Dozen" for more info about this.
Spinach - pro tip - I always keep a stash of frozen organic spinach in the freezer - just in case of emergencies - who among us has not had a spinach emergency?
Bananas - organic is ideal
Flaxseed - remember to keep your nuts and seeds in the fridge - they contain delicate oils that can go rancid, even at room temperature - and this rancid oil is highly toxic - so beware! Note - if you are using a high speed blender flax seed is fine to use - however, if you are just using an ordinary kitchen blender, ground flax seed is a bit easier.
Coconut water - you can buy this pretty easily now - but if you don't have it then just use water or a nut mylk - your choice.
Ice cubes - if you like them and you want your smoothie to be chilly. Ice cubes will tend to thicken your smoothie - which can be helpful.
Whizz up and enjoy!

Yesterday the 'camclub' e-newsletter - from the organisers of 'camexpo' reported on one of the latest adjudications from the ASA - I quote the 'camclub' piece in full as it expresses so well the 'jobsworth' approach taken by the ASA. It seems that the ASA may have had an irony bypass - or perhaps ought to take a long hard look at the preposterous nature of some of their adjudications:
Neom gets its knuckles wrapped by ASA over ‘organic’ candles
www.naturalproductsonline.co.uk Posted on04 February 2013.Natural beauty brand Neom Luxury Organics has branded a recent Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruling on its organic candles as ‘disappointing’.
A complainant challenged whether a reference to the brand’s luxury candle range as organic was misleading – and questioned whether it could be substantiated.
In response to the ASA, Neom argued that its candles were made from 90-92% vegetable waxes and 8-10% pure essential oil, and therefore contained no non-organic ingredients.
It also pointed out that despite efforts to lobby for products such as candles to be organically certified, the use of the word ‘organic’ was only recognised in certain industries and primarily in relation to food and cosmetics products.
The ASA upheld the complaint, concluding that, in the absence of a defined organic standard for candles, evidence would need to be provided to demonstrate that the majority of the ingredients had been certified organic by an independent organic certification body.
“We are really disappointed by this ruling as we proved that our candles meet the generally agreed definition of an organic product i.e. something that is 100% natural and free from any chemicals such as fertilisers and pesticides,” Nicola Elliott, founder and director of Neom Organics, told Natural Beauty News.
“We were able to provide supporting certificates to prove this but the decision was made that because certification bodies do not certify candles, there are no bodies to verify our claims. Obviously this is a really disappointing decision and we are already approaching various certification bodies and are in talks with them about considering recognising candles. “
“We are confident the certification bodies will recognise this in time.”
