How to Achieve Glorious Curls – Naturally

Hello, beautiful!

Today, I want to talk about something that’s close to my heart – natural, healthy, and beautiful curly hair. First of all though – please excuse the not very good selfie! Note to self – learn how to do selfies – properly. Just be glad I didn’t post a bathroom selfie – that would not be good 😉

As a positively obsessed natural health fan, I firmly believe that we should all try to avoid using harsh chemicals on our hair and embrace more organic, plant-based and eco-friendly beauty practices – it is best for the animals, our planet and us too! So, let’s talk about achieving those stunning, bouncy curls in the most natural way possible!

Why Natural Haircare Matters

First, let’s address the elephant in the room. Is it really necessary to opt for natural hair care? Here’s why it’s crucial:

– The hair care industry is known for using several harmful chemicals in their products, which can cause long-term damage to your hair and the environment.

– Natural ingredients are gentle, provide essential nutrients to your hair, and have fewer side effects.

– By choosing eco-friendly solutions, you are contributing to a sustainable and healthier planet.

Tips to Achieve Naturally Curly Hair

Now, let’s delve into all the amazing natural methods you can use to achieve your dream curls.

1. Use the Right Styling Techniques

Use simple styling techniques to achieve gorgeous curls without using any chemicals. Here are a few ideas for you:

Braiding (USA) or Plaiting (UK) your hair: Plait or braid your damp hair at night and then let it loose in the morning for lovely waves. You can also try different braid/ plait styles for a variety of curl patterns.

Hair Plopping: This technique is great if you already have curly or wavy hair.  It involves wrapping your wet hair in a cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel and letting it dry naturally. The results can be beautifully defined, frizz-free curls.

Flexi Rods or Hair Rollers: See my experiment in the very candid selfie in this post (Again – note to self – learn how to do selfies!) In this pic I used bendy foam rods – they were OK to sleep in and I was quite pleased with the results – certainly not too bad for a first attempt anyway.  What do you think of my results?  Let me know below.

Bendy rods and curlers are perfect for all hair types – wrap your damp hair around these styling tools and get vivacious, bouncy curls.

2. Homemade Hair Masks for Curls

Homemade hair masks are an excellent way to rejuvenate your hair, provide necessary nutrients, and promote curl formation. Try these recipes:

Banana and Honey Mask: Mash a ripe banana and mix it with one tablespoon coconut yoghurt. Apply this mask to your hair and leave it on for 20-30 minutes. The combination of these natural ingredients can do wonders for your hair’s health and deliver lovely curls.

Flaxseed Gel: Boil ¼ cup of flaxseeds in 2 cups of water until a gel-like consistency is achieved. Strain the liquid and use it as a styling gel for defined bouncy curls. Flaxseeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, promoting hair health and elasticity.

3. Use Natural Hair Care Products

Choose hair care products that are natural, organic, and specifically formulated for curly hair. Look for ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, argan oil, and coconut oil, as these are highly beneficial for curly hair.

I also love to use organic rosemary essential oil (and a few other surprising and effective natural hair care ingredients) as a scalp tonic that stops hair loss and promotes healthy hair growth.  I explain exactly how to do this in my YouTube video here.

In closing

Try out these tips and techniques and enjoy the beautiful curly hair that you’ve always dreamed of! Let me know how you get on below.

Remember – never lose sight of your goal of eco-friendly beauty practices with natural ingredients. With a little bit of patience and TLC, you can flaunt flawless curls in no time! So, what are you waiting for? Give it a go and achieve glorious curls without any harsh chemicals. Good luck!

Now that you have the basics down pat, why not experiment with different hairstyles to enhance your curly hair? Whether it’s an updo or half-up look, you can always find ways to make your curly hair look even more glamorous. With the right styling products and techniques, you’ll be rocking envy-inducing curls in no time!

And don’t forget to take care of your scalp as well – use a gentle shampoo (I use organic baby shampoo – fewer harsh ingredients!) that is specifically formulated for curly hair and follow it up with natural conditioners or deep conditioning masks. If you take proper care of your scalp, it will ensure that your curls stay healthy and beautiful. So, go ahead and give your hair the treatment it deserves!

Happy styling! 🙂
